ABOUT US

Learning for Vision was conceived with the aim of fostering holistic development encompassing spiritual, physical, and socio-economic aspects. Courtney's journey began in Jamaica, and at the age of 14, he immigrated to Canada. The impetus to become a voice and mentor for youth stemmed from a personal odyssey—an experience of a young Afro/Caribbean individual navigating the challenges of relocating to a new country, unprepared for the uncertainties that lay ahead.

Our Vision

Our vision is to bridge the gap in practical skill development and inspire a sense of purpose in the lives of young individuals.

Mission Statement

The program seeks to empower and uplift young individuals by providing them with opportunities, skills, mentorship, and a positive environment to pursue successful careers.

Core Values

To live and operate with integrity, a constant effort to integrate our words, our deeds and actions into one.

COURTNEY

In the face of a lack of mentors and outreach programs for newcomers like me in the early 90s, grappling with prejudice and lack of knowledge hindered my ability to connect with the right people and access available resources. Despite these challenges, I discovered my innate leadership qualities in my youth, driven by a passion for music, creativity, art, and talent development.

Motivated by these interests, I founded a platform that empowered young talent to record, write music, and perform across Alberta. These experiences fueled my desire to establish a foundation aimed at assisting young individuals in pursuing their purpose, providing the necessary resources to set them on the right path.

While the present generation may witness more opportunities for young individuals, particularly those from the Afro/Caribbean community, there remains a dearth of local role models, community-level outreach programs, and crucially, a lack of identity and spiritual guidance. I, too, found my path through spiritual practices, learning through listening, visual experiences, and hands-on engagement. This guided me in pursuing my purpose and understanding the transformative impact it can have on both personal and community levels.

In the pursuit of purpose, shaped by life's tough lessons and spiritual guidance, I overcame educational limitations to reach where I am today. The essence of my journey lies in understanding the significance of purpose in shaping an impactful life within one's home and community.

"As we navigate our dreams and inspirations, it's crucial never to let them fade, evolving over time but always retained in our minds and hearts."
